The 21th annual blessing invites "All creatures, great
and small", for an individual blessing from the Reverend
Doctor Warren F. Best. This event has brought many varied
animals, ferrets, rabbits, cats and dogs, even prize winning
llamas, tiny goats, prize donkeys and horses.
Participants
must be on lead or in carriers and fully controlled and monitored
by their human escorts. For information call the Assisi Animal
foundation at (815) 455 9411.
This
is held on the first Sunday of October in honor of our namesake,
St. Francis of Assisi, the early champion of animals. It's
a lovely event attended by all creatures great and small and
their persons of course. It is officiated by the Reverend
Dr. Warren F. Best who gives a "hands on" blessing
to every creature attending. We started this in 1989, and
it grows each year bringing every type of animals, from tiny
hamsters and ferrets all the way to horses!
